How do I join a meeting for the first time?
You are welcome to show up to any of our practices to see if our organization is right for you. Fill out a form, send an email, or tag along with a current member you know, and the officers will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to join.
How often does Ballet Folklorico Celestial meet?
We meet three to four times a week for two hours. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays are our set practice days. We will provide information to our members about meeting times, extra practice dates, any changes, and upcoming events.
Do I have to provide my own costumes?
No, you won’t need to provide your own costume. Thanks to the members’ efforts and subsequent members, we own costumes and accessories for the different regions we represent.
However, you will need to have your own dance shoes to perform. They can be purchased directly through BFC, or you may purchase them on your own if you find them cheaper elsewhere. You are more than welcome to bring costumes of your own from previous dance groups.
Remember, you will be issued a performance costume to use for each show. The officers will provide the members with a detailed list of costumes before each performance.
Do I have to speak Spanish or be Latino to join?
No, it is not a requirement to speak or understand Spanish to participate. You also don’t have to be Hispanic or Latino to join. Ballet Folklorico Celestial does not discriminate against race, skin color, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age. We welcome and encourage anyone to join.
Are members required to perform?
No, members are not required to perform, but we highly encourage and motivate them to participate. There are opportunities for shared social activities where performance isn’t necessary. Non-performers are encouraged to help with administrative matters such as educational presentations, public relations, props, costumes, meetings, scheduling, videotaping, photography, workshops, and fundraisers.
What if I have never danced before?
There is no need to worry as experience is not required. A member will teach and provide you the basic dance steps and choreography. However, previous experience in any dance form is helpful.
Do we have to pay any dues?
Yes, everyone, including returning members, is required to pay dues. Information about dues will be given to you by our officers.
